Flows

The consumer experience with ChargeAfter's platform occurs via two main flows: Apply and Checkout.

Apply is considered a sub-flow of Checkout. In other words, a consumer can proceed from applying for financing to a completed checkout/purchase within a single Checkout flow. However, a consumer can also complete the Apply flow without any Checkout flow being invoked.

Channels

ChargeAfter functionality is available for merchants working in the following channels: eCommerce, in store, call center, and in home. Below are the most common methods of initiating the Apply/Checkout flows for each channel.

ChannelInitiation Methods
eCommerceeCommerce Plugins, SDK, API
In storeSDK, API
Call centerOperate*, API
In homeAPI

For details about each of these integration methods, see Integrations below.

*Operate is a website for merchants, lenders, and financing partners to manage their operations with ChargeAfter. Operate's Call Center module provides a method of initiating the Apply/Checkout flow. See Using ChargeAfter Operate and Operate Overview.

Integrations

Various integration methods with ChargeAfter's platform are available for merchants. Merchants can choose the most appropriate integration approach based on the scale of sales, technical capabilities of the team, and functional requirements:

  • eCommerce Plugins: ChargeAfter is available on the most popular eCommerce platforms - Magento, Shopify, BigCommerce and others. See the eCommerce Overview.
  • Client-side SDK: The SDK is one of the integration approaches for stores that don't work with any of the supported eCommerce platforms. Both a Basic Integration and NPM Integration (preferred) are available. By default, use of the SDK allows merchant to embed an Apply/Checkout button on their website, which when clicked, launches the ChargeAfter modal. However, using inline mode of the SDK enables merchants to fully embed all ChargeAfter functionality (eliminating the launch of the modal) so the consumer experiences a seamless experience within the merchant website only.
  • RESTful API: This approach enables merchants to leverage ChargeAfter's lender network behind their own checkout experience and interface and also to leverage ChargeAfter financing offers before the Checkout and Apply flows even begin. See the API Reference for more details.
  • Hybrid Integration: By combining the capabilities of the SDK with the API, customers can customize the Apply and Checkout experience for particular lenders and use cases.
